FBYC Adult Sailing School

2010 Basic Cruising Course~

The Basic Cruising course takes 8 evenings to complete and is a great introduction to sailing on a keel boat. Instruction is on a 24 foot shark. Basic cruising covers the skills required to cruise safely by day in local waters as either skipper or crew of a sailboat 6-10 meters in length.

The course covers: boat handling under sail and power, terminology, safety equipment and procedures, basic weather and chart reading, reefing and knots, man-overboard procedures, anchoring and docking, and right of way rules. Upon completion of the course you should be able to sail a keelboat of up to 10 meters safely and efficiently in moderate wind and sea conditions.

You will be responsible for bringing your own lifejacket, and should bring appropriate attire for the water as some nights it may be a little chilly.
