The FBYC Job Jar facilitates matching work hours opporunities with members to perfrom the tasks.

There are 2 components on the FBYC website that comprise the job jar

1. A page under the members only menu that allows members seeking work hours opporunity to view opportunites. The list also includes jobs that have been assigned and completed. Overtime this list may be useful to record tasks for future planning.

2. A link to the spreadsheet that maintains the job jar information. This is a google hosted Sheets spreadsheet that is visible and updateable only by board members. Sheets is very similar to excel, however there are some minor differences. Please note it may take as long as 5 minutes from the time an addition or update to the spreadsheet becomes visible in page visible to members. Please remember to update the spreadsheet when a job is assigned and then again when it is completed. Please don't change the format of the spreadsheet.

Here is a description of the spreadsheet content. Please contact Doug if you have any questiosn

UPDATED: April 2nd, 2020

Hello FBYC Members:

This is the second instalment regarding the Covid-19 situation at FBYC. As indicated in a previous message, we must continue to be vigilant in stopping the spread of this virus by keeping “focused on hand washing, coughing etiquette, not touching your face, physical distance and staying home if feeling unwell.”. The goal of these updates is to keep track of this rapidly evolving pandemic and to inform the Membership on its effects on the operations of the Club.

Due to the increasing numbers with over 950,000 infected worldwide, we must do all that we can to stop the spread of COVID-19.

What the Government is doing

On March 17, 2020, it was noted that the Ontario Government has declared a state of emergency which meant “that all public libraries, recreational facilities, private schools, licensed child care centres, bars and restaurants that do not provide takeout are legally required to close immediately. Publicly funded schools were ordered to remain closed from March 15 to April 5, 2020”. This was supposed to last until end of March.

On March 24, 200, the Ontario Government has issued instructions to all non-essential businesses to shutdown, and, more recently, has instructed people not to gather in groups of more than five (5) people and to keep physical distance of at least 2m at all times.  The implications of such instructions caused the cancellation of all club events and work parties.

Most recently, on March 30, 2020, the Ontario Government extended the declaration effective immediately closures to include “all communal or shared, public or private, outdoor recreational amenities everywhere in Ontario, including but not limited to playgrounds, sports fields, basketball and tennis courts, off-leash dog parks, beaches, skateboard and BMX parks, picnic areas, outdoor community gardens, park shelters, outdoor exercise equipment, condo parks and gardens, and other outdoor recreational amenities. Green spaces in parks, trails, ravines and conservation areas that aren't otherwise closed would remain open for walk through access, but individuals must maintain the safe physical distance of at least two meters apart from others. Ontario's provincial parks and conservation reserves remain closed.”

In accordance with the instructions of the Ontario Government, FBYC is now closed and will remain closed until it is permitted to reopen.  This is a rapidly evolving situation that we are monitoring.  Currently, the clubhouse is closed to the public and members.  This is in keeping with what several other yacht clubs in Ontario have done as well.  For your own safety and the safety of others, please stay away from the Club and comply with public health directives.

What we are doing

The Board and the Flag Officers and the Treasurer are monitoring the situation.  Further discussions and contingency planning will take place at our scheduled Board meeting on April 6th, which is being conducted online rather than in-person. It should be emphasized that the health and welfare of our members are of paramount importance and will guide future decisions in dealing withCovid-19.  The Club will follow directives from various governments, but we should all bear in mind that health and safety is a common responsibility and that we all have a role to play.  We will save lives by doing our part.

During this unprecedented situation, the Club has much to do before the season opens and will communicate our plans as the situation develops.

At present, we are taking steps to ensure that the club can get up to speed in the shortest time once the Federal and Provincial Governments gives the go ahead.  We are working through some scenarios and contingencies but I want to reassure you that even in a worst case situation, the club will manage financially.  We are also aware of the high water level situation but we have to focus on the immediate problem of Covid-19 for now and deal with other concerns as they present themselves.

The situation is changing rapidly and we are monitoring it closely.  We will keep track of developments and inform you, the members, as soon as things become clearer.

Stay safe and healthy,

Mark
