Visit Us!

Welcome and thank you for visiting Frenchman’s Bay Yacht Club. We have a very proud history sailing the waters of Lake Ontario and beyond. Many of our members have cruised and raced around the world and we have even had a couple of Olympians start their sailing careers right here at this club. Frenchman’s Bay is the only natural protected bay on the north shore of the lake. The bay is safe and scenic and it is a hidden gem. We are a family-oriented club, run almost exclusively by volunteers. We have an active cruising schedule and we enjoy our Wednesday night keelboat racing series. Our Sailing School is very highly rated by Sail Canada and there are programs for both juniors and adults alike. We like to think of ourselves as the “The Friendliest Club on the Lake.” So if there is anything you need while visiting just ask one of our members and they will certainly help you out. This guide will also give you an overview of our facilities and provide information to help you make the most of your visit to our Club. Glad you could make it.

Visitors

Amenities

FBYC offers a number of amenities for the use of our members and guests. As we are a primarily volunteer run club, we ask that you tidy up after yourself and return any items you use to their proper place. If you are travelling with pets, please keep them leashed and pick up after them.

Gate code

The club property is gated and requires a code to enter. The duty officer or any member can let you know what the current code is. To exit the property on foot, you will need to activate the gate button inside the clubhouse near the pop machine.

Internet Access

The club provides complimentary wifi internet access for its members and guests, with a range that extends throughout the property and to the docks. The wifi password can be found on the clubhouse bulletin board.

Pump out facilities

Our pump out facilities are located on the south side of the docks. Visitors are welcome to use our pump out with the assistance of a member.

Kitchen

The club has a full kitchen, with a microwave, stove, fridge and sink, on the second floor off the Flag Room. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen as long as the Flag Room has not been booked for a private function. Please help us keep the kitchen clean for everyone and tidy up after you have used it.

Club BBQs

For fire and safety reasons, please do not use a barbeque on your boat while docked at the club. We have several BBQs which you are welcome to use. If a BBQ needs more propane, ask the duty officer or a club member who will help you replace the tank.

Ice

The club maintains a supply of ice which is sold for $2 a bag. Payment is on the honour system – if you take some ice, please put the appropriate payment in the payment slot by the vending machine in the clubhouse.

Bar and Alcohol

The FBYC pub offers a variety of reasonably priced alcoholic beverages for your enjoyment. Regular hours are Friday from 19:30 to 21:30 Saturday from 14:00 to 18:00 and Sunday from 14:00 to 18:00. The club does not allow personal alcohol consumption on the lawn or in other areas of the club. You are, of course, always welcome to consume personal alcohol on your vessel.

FBYC offers reciprocal club members 3 nights free. If your club permits a longer stay, we will match your club policy if space permits. Slips are assigned on a first-come first-served basis. Contact the club duty officer on channel 68 upon arrival to determine availability.

Duty Officer hours are 2 pm - 9 pm on weekends and 6 pm to 9 pm on weekdays. If you arrive outside of these hours, you can attempt to flag down a member for assistance. If you arrive during the week, please be careful around our docks as we run a very busy award winning sailing school and you will likely encounter young people sailing dinghies.

Other options for overnight slips on the bay include Fairport Yacht Club and Frenchman's Bay Marina.

There is good anchorage in the bay which is well protected, but after mid June, we recommend staying marked channel.
